Why Blog? Why Knit?

Sometimes, I feel like the reason that I started a blog was the same reason that people who talk a lot talk - I like to hear the sound of my own voice. Other times, I feel like it's because I want to connect with people who have an interest in my interests - mostly knitting, sci-fi, and databases. Since I'm still in college, those last two usually don't require quite as much defending as the first.

Often, I will mention that I knit or, God forbid, start doing it, in a public setting such as on campus at the beginning of class, in between classes, at a company Christmas party that I had no interest in participating in (more on that some other time), etc. When this happens, I feel as though everyone around me is thinking, "We have the internet now...movies and games at our fingertips... why the hell are you doing that?" Some people have even came right out and said, "That looks so boring! I would never have the patience for that." I usually give some generic reply and continue on because if you don't have anything nice to say... etc. =)

Anyway, in this blog, I do have something nice to say (mostly) and I hope that I can connect and speak freely about what I enjoy, while throwing in some other miscellaneous information about my life as well. I would also like to get back into writing. I used to really like it, but then I entered a major in college that was mostly science-dominated and I'm a little out of practice. Looking at this first post, it shows. Like most things, I expect it will get better with practice.
